When Janice was in high school, she had gained a reputation as an individual who hit the books real hard and who rarely, if ever, drank with her pals. She seemed driven to do well academically so that she would be able to find a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her a degree of monetary security.

After much contemplation, in time she came to a decision that she wanted to be a lawyer. In order to realize this goal, however, she would first have to get four years of undergraduate education.

After Finishing High School Janice Gets Accepted Into A Celebrated Undergraduate University as Training For a Career as a Lawyer

After Janice graduated from high school, she applied to and was accepted into an outstanding program in math. Her analysis of her options regarding this decision was based on the fact that this area of study would be a good foundation for law school and wouldn’t be comparable to the preponderance of law school applicants who major in political science at the undergraduate level.

After graduating with a 3.8 GPA at the undergrad level, she applied to and was accepted at a nationally ranked law school at one of the Big Ten universities.

She was enthusiastic about her legal studies but every so often she was swamped with all the work that had to be done at law school. In much the same way as she had done in her high school and undergraduate days, nonetheless, she made pals without much effort but very infrequently participated in social activities until the quarter was done.

After Being Elated With the Fact That She Had Done Very Well on Her Finals, Janice Wanted to Let Her Hair Down and Have Some Fun

Janice was the kind of person who worked thoroughly to finish what she was doing and then would take a few days off when she could. As it turns out, nonetheless, most of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks did not involve drinking. Evidently, Janice was anything but a party-person. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were done and thrilled with the fact that she had done a super job on her exams, nonetheless, she wanted to let her hair down and do something besides school work for a change.

So Janice and some of her friends from the university went to a local nightclub where they had a few drinks. As the hours went by, Janice persisted in drinking without having to worry about term papers or examinations the next day. As a matter of fact, Janice revealed to her buddies how thrilled she was to ”get down” and drink with her law school friends.

As the evening went by, Janice and her buddies continued to drink. In point of fact, she was having such a wonderful time that she didn’t want the night to end. It was almost like she was making up for lost time and trying to condense a year’s worth of fun into a single evening. Such a “game plan,” however, hardly ever works. In actual fact, when Janice went to the lady’s room and threw up, her friends started to get worried about her wellbeing.

About thirty minutes later when Janice started to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then fall unconscious, nevertheless, her classmates promptly realized that they needed to call 911, the emergency number, and ask for emergency assistance because they believed that Janice was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Once Janice was in the alcohol treatment hospital, the presiding healthcare practitioner substantiated what her classmates had suspected, that is to say, that Janice drank significantly more alcohol than her body could handle and, as a result, she experienced an alcohol overdose

After the emergency room treatment team pumped her stomach until no gastric contents were detectable, Janice was relocated to the recovery room. After staying almost two hours in recovery, Janice was then transported to one of the regular hospital rooms. Fortunately, the most crucial part of her hospitalization had passed and all of her vital signs were normal once again.

In response to Janice’s medical predicament, her buddies thoughtfully telephoned her Mom and Dad. As a result, early the next morning, her Mom and Dad and her favorite pals went to the hospital to visit Janice and check on her medical condition.

Janice Comes Close to Dying, is Grateful to be Alive, and Promises to Never Again Drink in an Excessive Manner

Janice was conscious of the fact that she came close to losing her life and, consequently, was thankful to be alive. Her Mom and Dad knew how intensely she worked at the university and how little she permitted herself to have any fun. Nevertheless, they also were aware that Janice needed to keep away from excessive drinking.

As a result, they recommended that in the future, whenever a drinking circumstance unfolds, that she always drink in moderation. Janice was fine with this and assured her friends and her parents that she would never again drink in an irresponsible manner. In Janice’s own words, “I never had an inkling that I would become one of the alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics in the local city newspaper. I now know that abusive and irresponsible drinking is not for me. I declare that this will never happen again.”

Fortunately, Janice was not only “school smart” but she also had a lot of common sense. Stated another way, she instantaneously comprehended that she had made an error and decided that she would never make the same error again. In point of fact, she now grasped the fact that she had involved herself in “binge drinking” and that even one instance of this type of alcohol abuse can end in a fatality.
